Success Stories

John J. Duncan Federal Building, Knoxville, TN – Scott Hawkins

“I would like to express my gratitude for KELSAN and the KELSAN staff that helped us to achieve our goal. In January 2007, the John Duncan Federal Building managed by Urban/Meridian Joint Venture for GSA (General Service Administration) was proud to receive the prestigious U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Design Certification for Existing Building (LEED-EB Silver). The John Duncan Building is the first GSA building to be certified LEED-EB in the Southeast and the first LEED-EB building in Tennessee. The certification demonstrates the commitment to provide an environmentally responsible, healthy, productive place to work.”
“Thank you for training and teaching us to better ourselves and our environment.”

“I would like to express my appreciation for Kelsan’s efforts in assisting the GSA Team in accomplishing the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Existing Buildings Certification for the John J. Duncan Federal Building. I appreciate the sound working relationship your team has developed with our Operations and Maintenance Contractor, Urban-Meridian Joint Venture. I additionally appreciate the expert knowledge and documentation you assisted us in providing to the USGBC in attainment of this certification. Together this team has successfully created a healthy working environment for the tenants and taxpayers who will utilize this facility while at the same time improving the sustainability of our outside environment.”

“The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is going green! As part of the campus wide Make Orange Green program, UT has switched to using green cleaning products in all academic and administrative buildings. Now in use for one year, the products are preferred by the cleaning staff over the previous “non-green” options. The University, with Kelsan and the Center for Clean Products and Clean Technologies, has also developed a green cleaning standard for all buildings cleaned by in-house staff members. The standard includes an expanded training program and the use of environmentally preferable equipment and paper products as well as green cleaning products. The University of Tennessee is committed to its staff, faculty, and students, and green cleaning products create a healthier environment for all members of the UT community.”
